Interior vs. Exterior Paint: What Houston Homeowners Need to Know

Houston's climate puts paint through a workout most cities never see. Between 95°+ summers, daily humidity, sudden downpours, and Gulf-coast UV, the wrong paint on the wrong surface fails fast — sometimes within a year.

Interior paints are formulated for washability, low odor, and color retention in stable indoor temperatures. They're not built to flex with seasonal expansion or resist UV. Use them outside and you'll see chalking and peeling within months.

Exterior paints — particularly 100% acrylics and elastomerics — flex with the substrate, repel moisture, and contain heavy UV blockers. They're essential on stucco, brick, Hardie board, and wood siding around Houston.

Our recommendation: premium acrylic interior paint for living spaces, scrubbable acrylic enamel for kitchens and bathrooms, and elastomeric or high-build acrylic for any exterior surface. The cost difference is small; the lifespan difference is years.
